You can also enrol in an online English language preparation course. There are many options available, all of which make studying more convenient. Most international colleges accept one, two, or three of the English language tests listed below: Here are the top five tests to consider if you want to study abroad. 1.  IELTS IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an international standardised test of E...

Wisdom Nuggets for Mother Africa

The late Dr Myles Munroe was a man of wisdom, he was once quoted as saying: I was born poor, sleeping on the floor with cockroaches and rats. Today, I own my own jet. Everything I have is paid for. I am debt free; I open new businesses every year and mentor many people,” *ON UNEMPLOYMENT* Myles Munroe strongly discouraged the reliance on Government for jobs, describing it as ‘lazy thinking.’“There is no such thing as unemployment in the world. What you call unemployment is what I call lazy thinking,” he says.“The work of government is not to create jobs, but to create an environment for people to develop their own work,” he asserts. *ON GIFTS/TALENTS* : Munroe discourages employed professionals against relying solely on their jobs for income, urging them to instead create wealth using their unique talents. He also challenges aspiring entrepreneurs to develop and refine their expertise in a talent, idea, service or body of knowledge.Whe...

Burden of Love: The Easter Story

What is our modern society's view on God's love? How can we love something we cannot see? What is your understanding of Sacrifice? In your view, what contributes to make love last longer or grow stronger?? Why does the almighty God love humanity so much?? Well, he created us in his own image to have dominion (rule) over the earth. He meant for us to enjoy all these things, worship him, and acknowledge him in our existence on this earth. There are many people who claim that there is no God, God only exist in our imagination, yet why does God continue to give such people and other people who blaspheme against him air, the gift to wake up from their sleep and  all the benefits he has assigned for this earth?? If you are wondering wildly just like me, I'm sure you are thinking the same thing too. Why doesn't he just cut supply of everything he gives you or me for free, the minute we say we are not going to worship him again? And concentrate fully and lovingly on on...

The Last Salvation

April 14, 1912 The RMS Titanic, the biggest man made ship in the world had just sank. Loud screams heard across-board. Some people were not able to find their loved ones, some found them dead next to other dead bodies.    Those who died instantly after the ship sank,  died either from heavy metals and heavy ship debris falling on them or froze in the sea to death because they did not have  on enough life jackets to protect them against the icy sea water.    Pastor John Harper, a Scottish Baptist Preacher was also caught amongst the rest in the icy water. He had been playing christian hymns on his accordion to the delight of the gathered guests when the Titanic suddenly sank. Usually, at the end of every performance, he would ask if any of the guests would love to give his life to Christ, and when they came forward, he would lead them in a prayer to salvation.          On this icy moment, he checked his fur coat t...

I Am Not My Skin

Have you ever felt the hot flash of the evils of racism run through the veins of your body? Imagine having to feel this horrible and horrifying impact everyday of your life in today's world. The story begins with one of my Brazilian students telling me this... "Kwame, I hate it so much being a black woman in Brazil today" Trust me when I tell you..ok?? You won't understand what I mean today but someday somehow you will. That was what she said to me on Saturday just when we were about rounding up our English class for the weekend. I could very well relate to her story of racial abuse and the big gap of racial discrimination and isolation in Brazil. Because I had faced just a similar ordeal when I was a young boy in a German Public High School in 1998 when the hippy boys in the school and in my class will usually touch my skin and feel their fingers to see if they will have black stains on their fingers as they touched me. But they felt nothing of such. And in ang...

Be a Generational Thinker

One of the greatest books I have ever read is Long Walk To Freedom by Nelson Mandela. In his book he talks about the importance of leadership through sacrifice and having a sense of responsibility to develop others as much as yourself. He is seen as an icon, a leader and a symbol of peace and inspiration, not just to his dear nation of South Africa but to the whole world. But let's ask ourselves here, what really made  Nelson Mandela such a celebrated person around the world???  Sacrifice !!!! His selfless sacrifice and desire to see white and black south Africans live in harmony together in the era of Apartheid took him to prison for 27 years. Even after his release from prison in 1990, he worked together with his haters and political opponents in the spirit of unity so that a nation which was once  divided and segregated white, black people, rich and poor people, educated and uneducated can live together as one people for the sake of his generation and generations y...

I Got Flowers Today

I'm feeling very hot still under this shade Araba, get off your behind and head home to cool yourself off this heat. That was when this gentleman stepped in my way. Your face is looking all sweaty Miss...?? Araba. That's my name if that's what you are asking for. And I'm Kofi. Nice to meet you Araba. Could you please take this handkerchief and wipe your face. I can't stand a beautiful lady like you sweating like this under the hot sun. We engaged in a little more conversation, exchanged numbers and left. We had agreed to go on our first date after our first phone call.  On our first date, he brought beautiful bouquet of roses after I told him I'll be wearing red. Our friendship developed into something beautiful called love. And here I was, Araba, in love with another man again. One night he came over and picked my phone from the sofa whilst I was in the kitchen trying to fix us dinner. He rushed towards me and squeezed my hair pulling me towards him and g...

Successful Impressions

There are two different views of success people see on you; 1. How hard you work 2.  What impression your success has on other people How to Improve on Success Impressions • Silence is a virtue: Don't speak when you don't have anything to say. Your words carry much weight at this point Make speeches that makes impact. • Fight the urge to Interrupt; we don't have to interrupt people when they are speaking just because we have the urge to say something as a reaction to what the person is saying. We do that or feel that way because we feel we are successful and influential, the world must only here our voice whenever we are with others instead of letting the voices of the other people who are with us heard too. • Attack with Humility: When wanting to prove a point to people whether through words or through achievements earned, always attack with humility. For example, in using words for example, you can ask someone or people to correct you on something you ...

Till Death Do Us Apart

Dear... (Please mention your name as you read) I take thee today as my lawful wedded wife or husband. To love and behold To cherish and adore Till death do us apart Beautiful words of covenant of love, don't you think ?? So then, tell me how these beautiful love words of covenant and endurance end up in physical abuse, emotional abuse and all that. Tell me. I'm writing this article purposely because of the floods of physical and emotional abuse cases and stories flying around Ghana lately, especially between married couples and those in love relationships. A few years ago, I guess in 2017, one of my students from Colombia confided in me with a problem that had been bothering her for weeks. She couldn't concentrate fully on what I was teaching her on WhatsApp video call.  Teacher, I believe my husband is cheating on me with another woman, probably from his work. I have been trying to get him to talk to me but to no avail. But what's that dark puffed circle aroun...

Painful Truths in Life You Have To Learn By Yourself

Your bullies will never stop bulling you in life until you hurt them No body cares about  you as a person, only what you can do for them You have to appear as though you are the lamb, but be the serpent behind it To be merciful to your enemies is to be unkind to yourself You only ever truly know somebody, when you fight them, you only truly know yourself when you fight. Your success is many other people’s failure If you never learn some form of martial arts, the day somebody breaks into your home will be the worst day of your life Ignoring your physical health will eventually catch up to you • Never be willing to lose something or anything easily that is  worth fighting for. Your most important asset is your health, once that goes everything else goes away from you. You are 99.99999% ignorant about everything and this is an understatement. Progress in life happens little by little Making money is easy, keeping money that is where the real challenge is...

Life Lessons We Missed in School

. We have been told many times, that education is the key to the future. For our future to be successful and enjoyable, we must be educated. On the contrary, all the world over since the industrial revolution in the 1900s, our focus has always been on classroom education to the neglect of our social and cultural education we ought to get at home first before stepping out into the four walls of a classroom. Lessons from our culture we ought to learn have completely disappeared in this our v generation or if not entirely erased, they have been devalued by us in some sense. One of my all-time favourite Hollywood movie classics is Top Gun, produced in 1986 and starrs Tom Cruise, who plays the character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Pete enrolled in the US Navy with dreams of becoming a Naval Aviator. His regimented millitary training is what makes the movie the more interesting and educative for me. For instance, he wakes up 6 am prompt everyday, has about 2 or 3 minutes to lay...

Your Appointed Time

Nobody sees the stars during the day. But in the night, they are visible. God knows how to hide you until it's your time to shine. Your invincibility does not mean you don't exist. It only means your time has not yet come. Wait patiently my dear sister, my dear brother, wait for your appointed time of your divine approval. That time is called "One Day" Anonymous How many of us have been waiting on a miracle from God  or some breakthrough of a sort to happen, but it never seems to happen. You're a responsible husband, a loving father,  you dutifully take care of all your responsibilities at home, take good care of your wife and family. But yet you have been struggling to make strides in your business despite all the good morals of integrity and honesty you have shown in doing your business. You are thinking of giving up because you have genuinely tried everything you know, but it's not working. But I'm writing this article to tell you this morning tha...

USA And The Western World is Against Polygamy.. Our Ghana Law is Against LGBT Rights. Will They Allow To Set Up a Polygamy Office In Their Country??

On June 26 2015, the US supreme court struck down all state laws banning same - sex marriages and legalised in all the fifty states across America. I remember that day, pretty well watching CNN seeing then host taking the live feed Anderson Cooper in a jubilant mood. Pictures from the supreme court also painted the same picture. Men kissing men passionately, and women kissing women passionately and locking tongues as well. All this outside the US supreme court for the whole country and the whole world to see that the United States of America, the greatest free country on earth is now fully endorsing gay marriage and approving LGBT rights. The gay pride parade was insane, trust me. A few months later, some European Union countries also joined in and legalised it unanimously. I could recall on that evening I called up one of my Brazilian friends, a woman who had always been a strong advocate and a strong supporter of LGBT rights to pick her mind on what had just happened in the US. ...

Build Up Your Own Health

They say your health is your wealth How well do you prioritise your own health?? Is good health and wellness a top priority in your life or it's just an after thought? On 27th January of this year, around 8:30 pm in the evening, I had just finished teaching my last student, Caio, a Brazilian footballer learning English with me. When suddenly I felt a sharp pain on one side of my head.   It was so intense and felt like somebody was hitting one side of my head with a harmer.     Well, silly me, I thought I was indestructible as I have always been thinking (nothing can  do me except God kills me haha) slept it off as soon as the pain subsided.   The next morning I woke up to terrible dry cough and sharp back pain all over my back actually. I will not be able to lay comfortably on back until I got on the Ambulance. (We'll get to that part soon.   My father who is always the first to knock and enter my room every morning to check up on me, came to me th...

The Value Attraction

There is a difference between being liked and being valued. A lot of people like you But not many value you. Be valued. Anonymous I'm about to drop a bomb on today. Do you want to know what it is. Alright bring your ears closer and let me tell you this one important secret. People don't like you. I repeat, I said people don't like you. People like the things you can give to them.  Ahhhh Kwame, what are you trying to saying...??? What I'm trying to say to you my dear reader is very simple, and it's that people don't like that much as you think or imagine. They like you for the things you can give them or how useful you are to them. That thing you can give them is what we call value. We struggle so much to catch the attention of so many people on social media with some "toys"  (fast cars, big mansions...etc) we have acquired so that people's attention will be drawn unto us or will be drawn to our page. We hit 4k likes on Facebook and Instag...

Your Turn Back Moment

How do you see/view failure as a person in your life? Do you count failure/failing as a bad omen for endless counts of disaster or you view failure as a blessing in disguise?? The founder of Panasonic, Konosuke Matsushita had a very interesting taste of failure early on his life as an apprentice in an electronic shop in Tokyo. The shop where he worked produced mechanical electric bulbs for sale. In those times, I'm guessing the 1800s you will have to whine up something under the bulbs for it to light up or produce light. But this young apprentice after several tries found an ingenious way for the light to light itself in the bulb without any human help. Beaming with excitement, he showed the invention to his boss and pleaded with them to try it on all the next production of bulbs. But his boss didn't listen to him. He continued begging and pleading with him, but to his suprise, he was fired from the job for being irritating and annoying. With the  little money that he h...

Words That Divide

What are some of the words said to you that have hurt you so much? Do those hurtful or negative words  still have an effect on your today? If not, how were you able to forget them and overcome its power on you? Growing up as a little boy right through to my teenage years, I faced a lot of discrimination from strangers and quite strangely, people who I considered as friends. I have gladly overpowered that stigma. But one negative thing I cannot shake easily is this mocking phrase; Class, look, Kwame Sarpong is writing his own formulas. You must be guessing what kind of formulas was I writing. It was during a time in my Primary School Maths Class, that my maths teacher said those words to me Infront of the whole class. Everybody in the class laughed at me hard as well to crown my shame. These words deformed me mentally for years in my life until the intervention of my statistics lecturer at the university started taking keen interest in my studies. He wanted to understand why ...

*Life: The Bitter- Sweet Magic God Gave Us*

The habit of obsessing over the idea of having a perfect life where you compress yourself into a focused point, means that you will suffer from tunnel-vision. Tunnel-vision means that you will miss much of life. The perfect life is always around the corner, but the decent life is right here already if you can stop for long enough to see it. Life can be described in just three words: Up and Down.  And that's how God created it. We humans mistakenly expect life to be consistently Up. It does not work like that in the scheme of things. Life, along with all the natural human processes are cyclical (in the habit of repeating itself) For instance your  personal energy  throughout life works cyclically no matter how balanced or imbalanced any lifestyle is. Live a Life Without Judgements We judge the life we are living because we want to know the answer before we understand the challenge. We judge our own lives harshly and unfairly when we compare our lives to those we ...

Random Act of Kindness

** "Carry out a random act of kindness to people with no expectation of reward in return,  safe in the knowledge that one day someone might also do same for you" Princess Diana In 1897, two teenage students from Stanford University in America planned to organise a concert in the school. They had a piano concert in mind. So they wrote a letter to the world's famous pianist at the time who was from Poland to invite him to come to America and play the concert in their school. To show an act of good faith and integrity, they organised collection of money from all their friends in the school and added it and posted to the man. When the  man received and read the letter, he was so moved and touched by their act. And he wrote back to them saying; My dear boys, I am deeply touched by your kind gesture. For this reason, I have decided to come play the concert for you for free. But I am sending your money back to you. Use it to pay any tuition fee or cost you may have. And a...
