The Last Salvation

April 14, 1912 The RMS Titanic, the biggest man made ship in the world had just sank. Loud screams heard across-board. Some people were not able to find their loved ones, some found them dead next to other dead bodies.    Those who died instantly after the ship sank,  died either from heavy metals and heavy ship debris falling on them or froze in the sea to death because they did not have  on enough life jackets to protect them against the icy sea water.    Pastor John Harper, a Scottish Baptist Preacher was also caught amongst the rest in the icy water. He had been playing christian hymns on his accordion to the delight of the gathered guests when the Titanic suddenly sank. Usually, at the end of every performance, he would ask if any of the guests would love to give his life to Christ, and when they came forward, he would lead them in a prayer to salvation.          On this icy moment, he checked his fur coat to see if he had any Gospel of Jesus leaflets left  on him to share wi

I Am Not My Skin

Have you ever felt the hot flash of the evils of racism run through the veins of your body? Imagine having to feel this horrible and horrifying impact everyday of your life in today's world. The story begins with one of my Brazilian students telling me this... "Kwame, I hate it so much being a black woman in Brazil today" Trust me when I tell you..ok?? You won't understand what I mean today but someday somehow you will. That was what she said to me on Saturday just when we were about rounding up our English class for the weekend. I could very well relate to her story of racial abuse and the big gap of racial discrimination and isolation in Brazil. Because I had faced just a similar ordeal when I was a young boy in a German Public High School in 1998 when the hippy boys in the school and in my class will usually touch my skin and feel their fingers to see if they will have black stains on their fingers as they touched me. But they felt nothing of such. And in ang

Be a Generational Thinker

One of the greatest books I have ever read is Long Walk To Freedom by Nelson Mandela. In his book he talks about the importance of leadership through sacrifice and having a sense of responsibility to develop others as much as yourself. He is seen as an icon, a leader and a symbol of peace and inspiration, not just to his dear nation of South Africa but to the whole world. But let's ask ourselves here, what really made  Nelson Mandela such a celebrated person around the world???  Sacrifice !!!! His selfless sacrifice and desire to see white and black south Africans live in harmony together in the era of Apartheid took him to prison for 27 years. Even after his release from prison in 1990, he worked together with his haters and political opponents in the spirit of unity so that a nation which was once  divided and segregated white, black people, rich and poor people, educated and uneducated can live together as one people for the sake of his generation and generations yet to come

I Got Flowers Today

I'm feeling very hot still under this shade Araba, get off your behind and head home to cool yourself off this heat. That was when this gentleman stepped in my way. Your face is looking all sweaty Miss...?? Araba. That's my name if that's what you are asking for. And I'm Kofi. Nice to meet you Araba. Could you please take this handkerchief and wipe your face. I can't stand a beautiful lady like you sweating like this under the hot sun. We engaged in a little more conversation, exchanged numbers and left. We had agreed to go on our first date after our first phone call.  On our first date, he brought beautiful bouquet of roses after I told him I'll be wearing red. Our friendship developed into something beautiful called love. And here I was, Araba, in love with another man again. One night he came over and picked my phone from the sofa whilst I was in the kitchen trying to fix us dinner. He rushed towards me and squeezed my hair pulling me towards him and g

Successful Impressions

There are two different views of success people see on you; 1. How hard you work 2.  What impression your success has on other people How to Improve on Success Impressions • Silence is a virtue: Don't speak when you don't have anything to say. Your words carry much weight at this point Make speeches that makes impact. • Fight the urge to Interrupt; we don't have to interrupt people when they are speaking just because we have the urge to say something as a reaction to what the person is saying. We do that or feel that way because we feel we are successful and influential, the world must only here our voice whenever we are with others instead of letting the voices of the other people who are with us heard too. • Attack with Humility: When wanting to prove a point to people whether through words or through achievements earned, always attack with humility. For example, in using words for example, you can ask someone or people to correct you on something you are about

Till Death Do Us Apart

Dear... (Please mention your name as you read) I take thee today as my lawful wedded wife or husband. To love and behold To cherish and adore Till death do us apart Beautiful words of covenant of love, don't you think ?? So then, tell me how these beautiful love words of covenant and endurance end up in physical abuse, emotional abuse and all that. Tell me. I'm writing this article purposely because of the floods of physical and emotional abuse cases and stories flying around Ghana lately, especially between married couples and those in love relationships. A few years ago, I guess in 2017, one of my students from Colombia confided in me with a problem that had been bothering her for weeks. She couldn't concentrate fully on what I was teaching her on WhatsApp video call.  Teacher, I believe my husband is cheating on me with another woman, probably from his work. I have been trying to get him to talk to me but to no avail. But what's that dark puffed circle aroun

Painful Truths in Life You Have To Learn By Yourself

Your bullies will never stop bulling you in life until you hurt them No body cares about  you as a person, only what you can do for them You have to appear as though you are the lamb, but be the serpent behind it To be merciful to your enemies is to be unkind to yourself You only ever truly know somebody, when you fight them, you only truly know yourself when you fight. Your success is many other people’s failure If you never learn some form of martial arts, the day somebody breaks into your home will be the worst day of your life Ignoring your physical health will eventually catch up to you • Never be willing to lose something or anything easily that is  worth fighting for. Your most important asset is your health, once that goes everything else goes away from you. You are 99.99999% ignorant about everything and this is an understatement. Progress in life happens little by little Making money is easy, keeping money that is where the real challenge is. It is much easier

Life Lessons We Missed in School

. We have been told many times, that education is the key to the future. For our future to be successful and enjoyable, we must be educated. On the contrary, all the world over since the industrial revolution in the 1900s, our focus has always been on classroom education to the neglect of our social and cultural education we ought to get at home first before stepping out into the four walls of a classroom. Lessons from our culture we ought to learn have completely disappeared in this our v generation or if not entirely erased, they have been devalued by us in some sense. One of my all-time favourite Hollywood movie classics is Top Gun, produced in 1986 and starrs Tom Cruise, who plays the character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Pete enrolled in the US Navy with dreams of becoming a Naval Aviator. His regimented millitary training is what makes the movie the more interesting and educative for me. For instance, he wakes up 6 am prompt everyday, has about 2 or 3 minutes to lay

Your Appointed Time

Nobody sees the stars during the day. But in the night, they are visible. God knows how to hide you until it's your time to shine. Your invincibility does not mean you don't exist. It only means your time has not yet come. Wait patiently my dear sister, my dear brother, wait for your appointed time of your divine approval. That time is called "One Day" Anonymous How many of us have been waiting on a miracle from God  or some breakthrough of a sort to happen, but it never seems to happen. You're a responsible husband, a loving father,  you dutifully take care of all your responsibilities at home, take good care of your wife and family. But yet you have been struggling to make strides in your business despite all the good morals of integrity and honesty you have shown in doing your business. You are thinking of giving up because you have genuinely tried everything you know, but it's not working. But I'm writing this article to tell you this morning tha

USA And The Western World is Against Polygamy.. Our Ghana Law is Against LGBT Rights. Will They Allow To Set Up a Polygamy Office In Their Country??

On June 26 2015, the US supreme court struck down all state laws banning same - sex marriages and legalised in all the fifty states across America. I remember that day, pretty well watching CNN seeing then host taking the live feed Anderson Cooper in a jubilant mood. Pictures from the supreme court also painted the same picture. Men kissing men passionately, and women kissing women passionately and locking tongues as well. All this outside the US supreme court for the whole country and the whole world to see that the United States of America, the greatest free country on earth is now fully endorsing gay marriage and approving LGBT rights. The gay pride parade was insane, trust me. A few months later, some European Union countries also joined in and legalised it unanimously. I could recall on that evening I called up one of my Brazilian friends, a woman who had always been a strong advocate and a strong supporter of LGBT rights to pick her mind on what had just happened in the US.
